Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) comes from the leaves of the tea tree. It grows in the swampy southeast Australian coast. You may also know it as melaleuca oil.

Tea Tree essential oil is one of the most popular essential oils because of its versatility. It is best known for its pimple-fighting abilities.

AROMATHERAPY
Because Tea Tree oil has an herbaceous aroma, it blends well with other invigorating and refreshing essential oils like Peppermint, Eucalyptus, or Lemon.

WORD OF CAUTION
Always mix Tea Tree essential oil with a carrier oil before applying topically. A patch test should be performed before use for those with sensitive skin. In people with acne, it can sometimes cause skin dryness, itching, sting, burning and redness. Tea Tree oil is toxic to pets, whether it is applied to the skin/fur, used in diffusers or licked up in the case of a spill.

As a general rule, pregnant or nursing women should consult their physician before using essential oils.

Never ingest tea tree oil, because it's poisonous if swallowed, according to the National Capital Poison Center.

Tea Tree oil can make skin more sensitive to the sun so don’t apply it immediately before going outdoors.
